How does STORYHIVE work?

STORYHIVE Editions are calls for applications for funding to create screen-based productions by local creators residing in British Columbia and Alberta, Canada. STORYHIVE provides more than just funding for creators; we provide mentorship and training as well as distribution on TELUS platforms. STORYHIVE runs multiple Editions each year. In each STORYHIVE Edition, a format is specified, such as web series, digital shorts, music video, documentary, animation or immersive.

There are several stages of a STORYHIVE Edition:

PITCH + PLAN

Content creators apply for STORYHIVE grant funding by submitting an online application for their project concept.

AWARD + PRODUCE

A jury selects the successful projects. In making their decision, they consider a number of factors, including, but not limited to, the submitted application, the impact of the award on the creator and the importance of the story to the community. The awarded projects are posted online and receive a grant to produce their project.

LAUNCH + WATCH

Awarded projects are distributed on platforms such as (but not limited to): TELUS Optik TV On Demand, TELUS websites, STORYHIVE.com and other TELUS branded websites or social media platforms including the STORYHIVE YouTube channel. Audiences watch content produced by and for the community.
